A Christmas Carol: How important is the arts?

At Fortune Academy, we know the importance the Arts play for students with learning differences.

  • Students need a place where they can create and grow which shows them that it is possible to be successful.

  • Students are free to effectively communicate their thoughts and feelings in a way that makes sense to them.

The National Center for Learning Disabilities has this to say about the impact the Arts can have on our students. “A paintbrush, a costume, a drum, or a paper with scissors and glue can be new tools for self-expression that boost confidence while providing relatable opportunities for learning and practice.” The Arts require the use of complex thinking and problem solving allowing students to construct their own understanding of the world. While drawing reinforces motor skills and develops spatial relationships, Music teaches students about rhythm and rhyme and supports their phonological awareness and memory. Dance provides a social way to learn sequencing and following directions. Performing plays is actually an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a theme and learn about it in a profound and personal way. Students from our TAKE ONE theatre program are preparing to take to the stage and present "A Christmas Carol". Please come see for yourself the difference the Arts is making in the lives of our students.
Join us in person for our two performances or sit in the comfort of your home and Livestream the performance. Make your plans today, you won’t want to miss seeing our students shine.
